The new event, is spreading across a university’s campus
For this project, we were tasked with selecting an ongoing campus event, and to journal our findings. We also had to interview people to include credible sources. Finding an event was the fun part, but getting an interview was a challenge. I learned how to interview others for a story, and what questions to ask to find out news-worthy information.

The new event called game night is making its way into Gerety Hall to bring people together, every Tuesday at Salve Regina University.
Game night is a student-run event and is set up with stacking games such as “Minute-to-win-it”, where the player has to stack and unstack solo cups from a pyramid shape cups in under a minute.
They’re “Fun crafty games where you’ll time yourself and have to complete a challenge in under a minute,” said freshman, student activities worker Samantha Shalongo.
Shalongo states the goal is to prompt students to meet and connect with other people by having them work together as a team to complete a task.
As, I was watching people play the games, I saw Tatiana Sola-Mendez, leaving the room. Sola-Mendez is a freshmen at Salve Regina. She said, “I’m having a blast” and when asked if she would attend again, confidently agreed.
Another freshman student, Julian Juarez, stated that it helped him get along with his peers and “For sure, makes you feel at home ”, when asked if the event enhanced his experience at Salve.
Although the games are fun, the students are likely to go to Gerety for the food provided.
Shalongo witnesses people coming in and leaving, playing one game or none and then immediately grabbing food.
Shalongo is an operation and program manager at Gerety Hall. “I like that there’s always food accompanying it so that way you and your friends could eat while you play games,” said Shalongo.
Shalongo also agreed that she didn’t know what to expect for the new event and that she is handing out surveys to improve future events.
Another witness to the popularity of the food provided is Sodexo worker, Glenn-Edward Whisler.
He states that the amount of people that come on their busiest night is 100 people and the number of visitors depends on the day. Each day Gerety Hall has a different event, with different food provided, with Wednesday being wing night.
“Wing night is definitely the most popular”, said Whisler.
The food and events start at 8:00 p.m. and end at 10:00 p.m. Game night is an event that people keep attending and will hopefully continue to run at Salve Regina University.
